Ismael "Smiley" Castillo

June 17, 1955 — September 13, 2007

Ismael "Smiley" Castillo, 52, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Sioux City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Albuquerque.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be one hour prior to services today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ismael was born June 17, 1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Ricardo and Ruth (Navarrette) Castillo. He grew up in Texas until 1970, when the family moved to Sioux City. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973 and served for several years.

Survivors include his companion for 17 years, Dorothy Gonzales of Albuquerque; his mother, Ruth Castillo of Sioux City; seven siblings and their families, Rick, Eddie and Irma Castillo, Linda Sanchez, Ruth and her husband, Robin Baker, all of Sioux City, Hilda Clark of Des Moines, Hope and her husband, Hector Perez of Corpus Christi; and a stepdaughter, Julie Gonzales.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ricardo U. Castillo.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Castillo, Rick Castillo Jr., Nate Castillo, Raul and Eugene Sanchez and Frank Campbell.
