NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Arvil A. Casey, 89, of North Sioux City died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alta Morgan of United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Arvil was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Red Ash, Va., the son of Almarine and Cora (Phillips) Casey. He grew up in Red Ash, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a veteran of D-Day at Omaha Beach.
He married Lois Stiltner on June 12, 1948, in Richlands, Va. He went to school in Chicago to be a draftsman and began working at Zenith. He transferred to Zenith in Sioux City in 1967. He worked for Zenith until retiring.
He was a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Sioux City Consistory and the High Twelve Club. He was a former member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He loved to travel, fish, garden and spend time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and mandolin. He was a member of United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of North Sioux City; four children, Betty and her husband, Burton Hurley of Cedar Bluffs, Va., Anita and her husband, John Froehlig of Sioux City; James Casey of Rosemount, Minn., and Michael Casey of North Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Victor and Kathleen Casey of Milan, Ohio; a sister, Vivian Gregg of Portsmouth, Va.; eight grandchildren, Bradley Hurley, Robert Burton Hurley, Priscilla Casey, Sharon Stacey, Craig Casey, John Russell Hurley, Jack Froehlig and Pamela Case; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and five sisters.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
