Viola Mae Carver, 81 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services for Viola will be on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at New Life Community Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in the Ponca Memorial Cemetery.

Viola was born on February 25, 1928 in Thurston County, Nebraska to Clifford and Minnie (Berg) Underwood. She attended South Sioux City Public Schools. She has lived in South Sioux City, Ne; Ponca, NE, Basin, WY. And lastly Sioux City, IA. She was a homemaker and school cook for the Jackson Nebraska School District and she worked several area restaurants and Bellas Hess. She was married to Ralph Riffey in 1949. To this union 4 children were born. Ralph preceded her in death in 1975. In 1976 she was united in marriage to Claire Perkins who preceded her in death in 1983. She was later married to Bert Carver in 1988. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking. She was a member of the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene.

Viola is survived by her husband Bert Carver of Sioux City; 4 children Audrey (Ken) Kinyon; Elaine (James) Tucker; Ralph (RaVonne) Riffey; and Twila (Carl) Sells; 13 grandchildren, Paul Shaputis; Angela Shaputis; Micah Riffey; Daniel Powell; Laci Powell; Susan Anderson; Rhonda Riffey; Jennifer Garrard; Kristopher Kinyon; Kelsey Kinyon; Matthew Tucker; Brad Tucker; and Arthur Sells; 8 great grandchildren; 4 sibling, Florence Riffey; Winifred Underwood; Jean Barclay; and Darrell Underwood.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Ralph Riffey, second husband Claire Perkins, and 2 brothers Norman and Melvin Underwood.

Pallbearers will be Paul Shaputis, Daniel Powell, Kristopher Kinyon, Brad Tucker, Clay Garrard, and Shaun Anderson.
