Sallie was born June 15, 1938, in Louisville, Ky., to Hermann Teague and Elizabeth Raney, and moved to Sioux City shortly after birth, where she was a longtime resident. She obtained her G.E.D. and attended some college courses.
She married Richard Maitland Carter on Oct. 22, 1955. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2003, in Sioux City. Sallie was employed as a cashier with Goodwill Industries, where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the employees. She retired in February 2006.
In her free time, she loved gardening and writing poetry; but she enjoyed most of all spending time with her family and spending time at Evergreen Terrace, where she found great peace and friendships. Sallie helped start the youth girls softball program in Sioux City, with the help of her five daughters.
Survivors include three sons, Richard, Robin and Russell; five daughters, Dawn, Eve, Honey, Melody and Wendy and their families; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard.
Memorials may be made to Evergreen Terrace, 2430 West Street, Sioux City.
