Virginia A. Carpenter

March 1, 1945 — January 25, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- Virginia A. "Ginia" Carpenter, 64, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City (Neb.) Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services.

Ms. Carpenter was born March 1, 1945, in Sioux City, the daughter of Charlotte (Chris) and Francis (Frank) Russell. She resided in South Sioux City until moving to Sioux City. She married Ernest Carpenter in 1994; he preceded her in death on March 10, 2000.

She worked for Aalfs, IBP, Bomgaars Warehouse, Truck Haven and the Roller Rink in South Sioux City, along with various bars and restaurants. She was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles and the Sioux City V.F.W. She liked to camp, fish, roller skate, do arts and crafts, spend time with kids and friends and had many good times.

Survivors include two daughters, Gina Morley and fiance John Roupe of Sioux City and Deb and her husband Dave Sorum of St. Cloud, Minn.; a stepson, Lee, and wife Jean Carpenter of Crosby, Texas; a stepdaughter, Donna, and husband Chief Wagoneer of Bellevue, Texas; a brother, Dan Russell of Loganville, Ga.; a sister, Karen, and husband Al Rude of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and allotted kids; a special aunt, Norma Stoffer of Sioux City; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents; stepfather, Verne Erickson; two sons, Allen Lee and Paul Martin; one stepgrandchild, Jimmy; and a sister-in-law, Francis Petti of Holstein, Iowa.
