Catherine Maurine Carlson of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mrs. Carlson was born in Griswold, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas T. and Mary Margaret (Miller) Hughes. She graduated from Corning High School and attended business school for two years.

She was married to John C. Carlson on Aug. 12, 1946, in Sioux City, following his discharge from his military service in World War II. She worked as a legal assistant to Marvin J. Klass in a law firm for 27 years. John passed away Sept. 16, 2001, in Sioux City.

She enjoyed decorating and music. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and its confraternity. In earlier years, she was a member and officer of the Sioux City Quota Club. She was an active member and volunteer on the membership committee of the Sioux City Symphony Association and concert course and the Women's Club.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Madeline (John) Brown of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; and a sister.

Pallbearers will be J. Steven Alcorn, the Rev. P. Michael Carlson, Scot Spates, Casey Spates,John Olson and James Forey. Honorary pallbearers will be John Brown, Stanley Swanson, John Kinney, Virginia Kinney, Anne Danielson, LeRoy Deuhr and Gordon Ellis.

Memorials may be made in her name to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for the beautification of its interior and grounds.
