Willis Leo Cardwell

Willis Leo Cardwell, 85, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Waller of Church of Nazarene, officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Logan Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Willis was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Sioux City, to George and Leota "Maude" (Gillespie) Cardwell. He attended Sioux City Community Schools. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a combat medic.

He married Sarah Wright on June 21, 1945, in Stockport, England. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He was employed with Metz Baking Company.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Wright Cardwell of Sioux City; sons, Charles and Verna Cardwell, David Cardwell, Bob and Molly Cardwell and Douglas Cardwell; a daughter, Debbie and Larry Pryor; a brother, Jerry and Shirley Cardwell of Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Cardwell and Leota Rouse; and brothers and sisters, George, Melvin, Lois, Richard, Phillis and Geraldine.
