Sarah Cardwell, 81, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Waller of Church of the Nazarene of Le Mars, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Sarah was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Stockport, England, the daughter of Charles and Annie (O'Connor) Wright. She grew up in Stockport. Sarah met her husband at a dance in England during World War II while he was serving with the U.S. Army.
She married Willis L. Cardwell on June 21, 1945, in Stockport. After their marriage, the couple made Sioux City their home. Sarah was employed with Wincharger and Zenith Corporation for many years. She worked briefly as a cook at a Sioux City cafe. Mr. Cardwell died Oct. 2, 2007, in Sioux City.
She was a former member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. In earlier years, Sarah enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband. She also enjoyed knitting and family outings.
Survivors include five children, Charles and his wife, Verna, David, Robert and his wife, Marlene "Molly," and Douglas, all of Sioux City, and Deb Pryor and her husband, Larry of Akron, Iowa; a sister, Betty and her husband, John of England; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five siblings.
