Virginia 'Glee' Call

Virginia "Glee" (Smith) Call, 90, of Battle Creek, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Willow Dale Wellness Center in Battle Creek.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, with the Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Services will also be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, Neb., with the Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiating. Burial will be in Merna Cemetery, Merna, Neb. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home in Broken Bow.

Glee was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Merna, Neb., the daughter of Clarence and Zella Belle (Jordan) Smith. She graduated from Merna high school.

She married Joseph Cleon Call in Dec. 12, 1936, in Merna. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1974, in Hershey, Neb. She lived in Nebraska and Iowa.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Broken Bow, Neb., and First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Her church was very important to her. She was a member of the Rebekah, the Garden Club, W.H.O. Circle and Grange 103. She loved spending time with family. She enjoyed baking, gardening and quilting. She also enjoyed raising chickens.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Sharon) Call of Omaha; a daughter, Virginia (Ernie) Rickabaugh of Battle Creek, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Call of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, the Rev. Dr. Allen Call; a grandson, Todd Call; a great-grandson, Hayden Rickabaugh; a brother; and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ernest E. Rickabaugh, Michael Call, Gerald Rickabaugh, Brian Call, Joseph Call and Todd A. Mathers.
