Nancy Baxter Caldwell

June 16, 1925 — September 23, 2008

Nancy Baxter Caldwell, 83, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on September 23, 2008 at Manor Care Health Services in Fort Meyers, Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City with Deacon Pat Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.

Nancy Baxter Caldwell grew up in Sioux City, second daughter of Don and Grace Baxter. She attended Central High School and graduated from the Madeira School in 1943. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar College in 1946 and taught mathematics at Morningside College in Sioux City the following academic year. In 1947 she married Andrew E. Caldwell, and they took up residence in Sioux City in 1953. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the Sioux City Junior League and the St. Thomas Church Altar Guild.

Mrs. Caldwell moved to Naples, Florida, with her husband in 1984, after he retired from his business in Sioux City.

She is survived by three daughters -- Katherine Ellison Caldwell of Bonita Springs, Florida; Elizabeth Caldwell Seastrum of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and Nancy Clayton Hedrick of Overland Park, Kansas; one granddaughter, Sara Caldwell Matthews of Overland Park, Kansas; and two sisters Katherine Everist of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mary Phillip of Westmont, Illinois. Her husband Andrew predeceased her earlier this year, and one daughter, Mercedes, died in 1958.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for the American Cancer Society of ones preference.
