Gerald P. Butler

SIOUX CITY -- Gerald P. "Jerry" Butler, 86, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a rosary conducted by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Jerry was born July 26, 1924, in Sioux City, the son of James and Mary (Chase) Butler. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in January 1943. He then served with the U.S. Navy until his discharge in 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific.

He married Jeanne A. Boyd on July 20, 1946, in Sioux City. Jerry was a member of the Carpenters Local 948 and worked for many local contractors over the years. In 1959, he started working for the city of Sioux City as a building maintenance supervisor. He retired from the city in 1992. After he retired, he did volunteer work at St. Boniface Catholic Church and helped on several remodeling projects.

He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Jerry was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Sioux City; a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Terry Bennett of Sioux City; two sons, David Butler of Sioux City and James Butler and his wife Joni of Gretna, Neb.; a sister, Delores Murphy of Sioux City; two brothers, Douglas Butler and Richard Butler, both of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren, Matthew Bennett (wife, Mari), Christopher Bennett (fiancee, Michelle), Melanie Streff, Molly Streff, Jacob Butler, and Bonnie Butler; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nathan, Brooklyn, Delaney and Chase Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janice Lacy; and two brothers, James and Robert Butler.

Pallbearers will be Christopher D. Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Jacob Butler, Christopher M. Bennett and Justin and Bill Boyd.
