Bonita V. Brusseau

Bonita V. Brusseau, 93, former life time resident of the Elk Point area, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Jefferson, S.D. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Bonnie was born July 17, 1915, in Jefferson, S.D., to Joseph and Hermeline Allard. She was raised near Jefferson and attended grade and high school there, where she graduated in 1933.

She married Donald Brusseau on May 21, 1933, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Together, they farmed in the Jefferson and Elk Point area for many years, retiring in 1978. They moved to Elk Point in September 1984.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a former long time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. She loved to play cards and was a very proud 71 year member of the ACB Card Club, which was active from 1932 to 2003. She also loved music and most of all, spending time with her family. She also enjoyed journaling events and daily life.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Nickles of Yankton, S.D.; two sons, Richard of Minnetonka, Minn., and Dan (Kathie) of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Brusseau of Minnetonka; three sisters, Yvette Winslow of Pompano Beach, Fla., Laura Carlin of Omaha and Rachel Quarles of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and a grandson.
