The Rev. B. Roy Brown, 92, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away at his garden apartment on March 8, 2008, at Beatitudes in Phoenix.
Services were held March 13 in Phoenix. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City.
The Rev. B. Roy Brown, called B. Roy by many of his numerous friends, was born in Sioux City on June 16, 1915, to Byron and Bertha Brown. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College in Sioux City. In 1943, he received his divinity degree from Duke University. He served as a minister at United Methodist churches in Schaller, Hawarden and Ottumwa, Iowa, and in Omaha, Rushville and Norfolk, Neb. He and his wife, Mary Margaret had lived in Phoenix since 1994.
He had a lifelong interest in music, politics, current events, theology, collegiate sports (especially Nebraska football and Duke basketball), and most of all, people. He enjoyed golf, hiking, tennis and playing on a daily basis, the 1889 C. Bechstein parlor grand piano he inherited from his parents.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Nancy Philippi and Jim LeValley of Phoenix; a son, Steve of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a granddaughter, Alison Philippi of Portland, Ore.; and a very dear sister-in-law, Dr. Catherine Jones of Eugene, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate of 62 years, Mary Margaret who preceded him in death by two years.
