Eugene D. Brotherson

November 17, 1927 — July 21, 2008

Eugene D. "Gene" Brotherson, 80, of Sioux City died Monday, July 21, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital, following a short illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Wall Lake (IA) Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Eugene was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Westside, Iowa, to George and Jessie (Weers) Brotherson. Gene grew up on the family farm near Westside and attended country school, graduating from Wall Lake High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Norma F. Hansen on May 19, 1957, in Breda, Iowa. The couple came to Sioux City after their marriage. Gene worked as an auto mechanic for Tott's Service Station for 17 years before ill health forced him to retire.

He was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Monahan Post 64. Gene enjoyed building things and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Sioux City; two daughters, Lori Decena of Sioux City and Lisa Anderson and her husband, John of Sioux City; a sister, Rowene Roth of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Marvin, Loyal, Irving and Kenneth Brotherson; a sister, Genevieve Stark; and two nieces.

Pallbearers will be Howard, Leon, Keith, Todd and David Brotherson and Bob Schwertley.
