Mary M. Brinkman

DAKOTA DUNES -- Mary M. Brinkman, 80, of Dakota Dunes passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mary was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Dr. Francis and Winifred Cauley. She graduated from Anthon (Iowa) High School in 1948. She also graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of Iowa in 1953.

On Oct. 1, 1953, she was united in married to Richard J. Brinkman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon. They lived in various places while Richard was serving in the U.S. Army. The Brinkman's lived in the Des Moines area from 1958 to 1995. Upon retirement, they moved to Dakota Dunes.

She is survived by her husband of more than 56 years, Richard; her children, Gary Brinkman and his wife, Cynthia of Dakota Dunes, Thomas Brinkman and his wife, Barbara of Newcastle, Calif., David Brinkman and his wife, Sheri of Boring, Ore., Bruce Brinkman and his wife, Diana of Urbandale, Iowa, Robert Brinkman of Auburn, Calif., and Joan and her husband, Jon Nost of Grimes, Iowa; and nine grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Patrick, Clay, Cory, Benjamin and Clare Brinkman and Catherine and Caleb Nost.

Memorials may be given to the Carmelite Nuns in Mary's name.
