Johanna Brekke

SIOUX CITY -- Johanna Brekke, 93, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Johanna was born June 7, 1915, in Little Rock, Iowa, to Johannes and Bertha (Hoting) Harms.

She married Christian H. Brekke on June 1, 1936, in Canton, S.D. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2008.

Her joy was crafting her own designs for quilts and afghans for all of the family members.

Survivors include her sons, Philip Brekke of Sioux City and Arlen Brekke of Phoenix; daughters, Joyce and her husband, Bernard McBride of Smithland, Iowa, and Diane Probst of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christian; her parents; and six sisters, Gertrude Bassett, Grace McChristy, Anna Schneider, Della Chaney, Harminna Harms and Katie Harms.
