Robert Clay Bob Brand, 83, residing in Sioux City, passed away quietly on August 13, 2009 at his residence in Sioux City, Iowa. Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place and a time of gathering will take place on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. with the family sharing memories at 7:00 p.m. at Meyers Brothers Colonial Chapel. A private internment will take place at a later date. Arrangements are by Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bob, a twin, was born June 29, 1926 in Miami, Fla. to Leonard and Susan (Clay) Brand in Miami Beach, Florida. Upon high school graduation, he attended Kings Point Merchant Marine Academys Engineering Officers Program. He then served on a WW II aircraft carrier as a second engineer for the Merchant Marine. After the war, he attended The University of Florida graduating with a degree in engineering. After working on various ships, he moved to Venezuela to work for the Creole Petroleum Corp. During that time, in 1951, he married Nancy Jean Hunt. In 1952, he returned to duty in the Korean War as a Navy Asst. Chief Engineer. Upon discharge, Bob and his two brothers started Brand Bros. Construction in Boynton Beach, Florida, building over 1,000 homes and several commercial buildings. They also founded the city of Atlantis, Florida. In 1971, he and his family moved to San Jose, Costa Rica where he worked in real estate. After 38 years abroad, last November he moved to Sioux City to be with his family.

Bob was a world traveler and a published author of two books, Twilight of the Gods and Wealth and Fame are a Gift.

Bob is survived by his daughters Sandy Jacobsma (Reid) and Nancy Sissel (Robert) of Sioux City, his grandchildren Paul Jacobsma (Elizabeth) of Chicago, Ill., Lee Jacobsma (special friend Ryan), Conner and Bryce Stansberry, Austin and Lauren Sissel of Sioux City, his brother Leonard and his wife Marjorie Brand of Boynton Beach, Florida, a brother-in law Nate Hunt (Del) of Desden, Florida, and his many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, his beloved wife Nancy Hunt Brand in September 2004, his twin brother, Raymond S. Brand, and sister-in-law Mary Pat Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Honor Flight of Siouxland or to Hospice of Siouxland.
