Dale R. Brady, 83, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 18, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.

Following cremation, private graveside service will be at a later date in Westside Cemetery, Westside, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Dale was born on March 14, 1924, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Joseph W. and Elsie (Brown) Brady. Following graduation from Maquoketa High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, serving during World War II. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his discharge from the military, Dale received his bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University. He later earned his master's from Wayne State College and continued his studies at the University of South Dakota and Morningside College.

He married Lillian A. Kruse on March 23, 1946, in Carroll, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1955. He started his teaching career in Churdan, Iowa. He then taught in the Sioux City Public School system for 35 years, including Leeds High School, East High School and more recently, Central Campus.

He was a member of American Legion Monahan Post 64. Dale was an avid photographer. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family. His grandchildren were everything to him.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; four children, James Brady and his wife, Charlotte of Stockton, Calif., Merry Sue Brady of Sioux City, Nathan Brady and his wife, Tamra of Sioux City, and Neal Brady of Glencoe, Minn.; a brother, George Brady and his wife, LaVeta of Clinton, Iowa; six grandchildren, Michelle Pickett, Julie Kenkel, James Brady II, Morgan Brady, Sydney Brady and Merrill Brady; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Pickett, Noah Pickett and Jeffrey Kenkel; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
