SIOUX CITY -- Charles V. "Charley" Boyle, 83, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Charley was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Jackson, Neb., the son of James and Lena (Teller) Boyle. He grew up in the Jackson area and graduated from Jackson High School in 1943. He attended the National Business College for two years before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Bertie Bell on July 3, 1946, in Jackson. He worked for Sue Bee Honey for 33 years, retiring as vice president of marketing. He then sold insurance for Northwest National for six years.

He had been a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany and was currently a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He had been a member of the Rotary Club in Georgia and Texas. He was dedicated to his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid golfer and had made five holes-in-one.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bertie Boyle of Sioux City; six children and their spouses, Elizabeth and John Farmer of Sioux City, Kathleen and Ken Wiskus of Gurnee, Ill., Randal and Nancy Boyle of Sioux City, Rodney and Diane Boyle of Ankeny, Iowa, Deidre and Gary Engel of Sioux City and Bryon and Barbara Boyle of St. Louis, Mo.; 19 grandchildren, Amy Kleinberg, Emily Kovarna Ehlers, Scott Farmer, Molly Rooney, Kendra Breunig, Kirsten Ponti, Kirk Wiskus, Jennifer Stoner, Angela Loutsch, Catherine Grimsley, Cindy Boyle, Janelle McKenzie, Heidi Grimaldo, Corey Engel, Russell Engel, Lee Engel, Bethany Boyle, Brendan Boyle and Bridget Boyle; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers, James, George, Michael, John, Bernard, Greg, Oren and Richard.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Wiskus, Scott Farmer, Corey Engel, Russell Engel, Lee Engel and Brendan Boyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
