Gregory J. "Greg" Borchers of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserve. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
Greg was born Oct. 11, 1945, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Marcella (Myers) Borchers. He received his GED. He served in the U.S. Navy on the Henry B. Wilson with his brothers. He also served in the Vietnam War.
He married Janice E. Carlson on March 11, 1967, in Sioux City. They were married 28 years. He was a drywall finisher for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his mother, Marcella Beckman of Le Mars, Iowa; a son, Brian (Dawn) Borchers of Sioux City; two daughters, Monica Borchers of Ponca, Neb. and Kim (Jim) Uhl of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Robert, Joshua, Megan, Lauren, Tyler and Emily; and two brothers, Clayton (Patty) Borchers of Sun City, Ariz. and Douglas (Diane) Borchers of Rock Valley, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Borchers; his stepfather, William Beckman; two sons, Jeffery and Chad Borchers; a brother, Terry Borchers; and his mother and father-in-law, Leila and Fred Carlson.
