Michael L. Bonner

Michael L. Bonner, 50, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Snyder of St. Michael's Catholic Church officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Neligh, Neb. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Michael was born Dec. 31, 1955, in Omaha, the son of Eugene and Carolyn Bonner. He graduated from Westside High School in Omaha and from the University of Nebraska in Omaha with a degree in accounting and finance. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at UNO.

He married Karen A. Hemenway on Oct. 30, 1982, in Neligh, Neb. He was a licensed certified public accountant. He worked for Johnson-Grant in Fremont, Neb. and Hastings, Neb. He then worked for Larry Nunn and Associates in Columbus, Ind. He joined the Winnebago tribe and helped them establish Winnavagas Casino. He then worked for IBP and Williams and Co. in Sioux City. He was currently employed by the Winnebago tribe and also operated a private C.P.A. practice from his home, which he had done for many years.

He was a past Master of the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 622 A.F. & A.M. He coached middle school football and was an avid fan of the University of Nebraska football team.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of Sioux City; a daughter, Michelle and her fiance, Ben Sears of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Jason at home; his mother, Carolyn Bonner of Omaha; a sister and her husband, Mindy and Tom Gargano of Omaha; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Hemenway of Neligh, Neb.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Leatrice Bonner; and his father-in-law, Dennis Hemenway.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bonner, Tom Gargano, Tommy and Timmy Gargano, Ed Hemenway and Tom Moore.
