A light has gone out in our lives. Olivia M. Bolton, 108, of Sioux City died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at her home surrounded by her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sioux City with Rev. Floyd E. Brown officiating. Burial will be follow at Logan Park Cemetery.
Olivia May Bolton was born on November 3, 1900 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Susan and Laney Scruggs. She grew up in Jefferson City and attended school there. She later attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She moved with her family to Sioux City on April 30, 1922. Olivia was married and to that union six children were born. She has been widowed many years.
Olivia was employed by the Warrior Hotel, Younker Martins and Younker Davidsons Department Stores. At Younkers, she worked in the alterations department and retired in 1978 after 23 years of service. There she became a member of the twenty-year club.
Olivia was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church since 1928, and currently was the oldest member of the church. She served on the Mothers Board, was active in Sunday school, and sang in the Senior Choir. She also served on various committees within the church. Olivias life has been sustained through her Faith in God. Her favorite quote was If its the Lords Will. She always contended that if you put your faith and trust in God, your life would be complete. Olivia loved her family and friends and was grateful for all of the many blessings that were bestowed on her.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Julia) Davis of Harbor City, California; and Russell Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; 16 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren.
Olivia was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two brothers, Russell and Eugene Street; her sister, Mary Leonard; three sons, Harry Smith, Preston Davis and Arnold Davis Jr.; her daughter, Leona Olivia Fields; and one grandchild.
