Billy Lee Bokemper, 63, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 16, 2007, in Yankton, S.D.

Graveside services will be noon Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Billy was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Wakefield, Neb., the son of Benjamin and Viney (Strivens) Bokemper. He served in the U.S. Army.

He married Dianne Loebsack on Nov. 5, 1971, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) as a mechanic until retiring in February 2006.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Union until retirement. He loved fishing and woodworking and currently was building a house in Geddes, S.D. He was a very helpful person and devoted to his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Scott and Carla Meints of Columbia, S.D.; two daughters and their husbands, Michelle and Robbie Burciaga of Katy, Texas, and Shanelle and Patrick Grudzinski of Norfolk, Neb.; five grandchildren, Megan, Ryan and Madison Burciaga and Tara and Trevor Meints; three brothers, Carl Bokemper of Deming, N.M., Myron Bokemper of Sioux City and Anton Bokemper of Emerson, Neb.; and seven sisters, Maxine Peters, Dolores McGuire, Shirley Carder, Virginia Jepsen, Bonnie Steecker, Diane Lorenson and JoAnn Flammang, all of Emerson, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lois Black and Linda Sue Bokemper.

Pallbearers will be Danny Flammang, Gary Flammang, Randy Bokemper, Loren Steecker, Jimmy Jepsen and Myron Bokemper. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
