Irene M. Bohan, 89, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Irene M. Bohan was born April 3, 1919 in Bow Valley, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Anna (Schmidt) Heger. She grew up and attended schools in Bow Valley. Irene came to Sioux City and married John T. Bohan on July 22, 1939, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 5, 1987, in Elk Point, S.D.

The couple founded Bohan Furniture in Sioux City in 1949, Irene continued to work for her sons who took over the business until 2003.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and most recently of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening and listening to Lawrence Welk. She lived for her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren

Survivors include four children, Robert Bohan and his loving companion Cyndi Unger of Sioux City, William Bohan and Barbara Bohan of Sioux City, Mary Jane Mycka and her loving companion Ron Stowers of Sioux City and Betty Seaton and her husband Darrell of Cave Creek, Ariz.; three brothers, Ralph Heger and his wife Lillian of Crofton, Neb., Clarence Heger of Sioux City and Clyde Heger of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Alvina Wilson and her husband Bob of Englewood, Colo. and Dorothy Gibbs of Ponca, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Rob, Brad and Bryan Bohan, Chad Bohan and Colette Bohan, Robert Mycka Jr., DeDe Miller, Troy and Todd Seaton; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lexie Heger of Randolph, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank Heger Jr., Roman and Leonard Heger; and one sister, Delores Rodman.

Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons. Memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
