Norma Jean Blom

SIOUX CITY -- Norma Jean Blom, 81, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chuck Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Norma was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Emerson, Neb., to Otto and Nancy (Trook) Heckathorn. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School.

She married Dale W. Blom on May 1, 1949, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1982. Norma was employed at Albertson's until becoming a homemaker to raise her family. Then in later years, she was employed at Hy-Vee, from where she retired.

She was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and Esther Circle. In her free time, she was an avid Los Angeles Lakers fan.

Survivors include four sons, Douglas Blom and his fiancee, Linda Hoekstra of Greeley, Colo., Terry Blom and his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City, Steve Blom of California, and Todd Blom of Duluth, Minn.; two sisters, Doris Harty of Kansas City, Mo., and Dorothy Hofling of Memphis, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Tara Leuci, Lori Mattingly, Madeline Blom and Katherine Giramonti; one grandson, Christopher Petersen; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Fravel and Bonnie Osborn, both of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Michael.

Pallbearers will be Scott Fravel, Greg Fravel, Brandon Fravel, Brian Blom, Keith Blom and Wayne Heckathorn.

Memorials may be given to the RLCW at Riverside Lutheran Church.
