Richard A. Bland, 64, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at his residence with his family at his side. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel located at 6200 Morningside Ave. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007 at Morningside Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Richard was born on July 7, 1942 to Charles and Marian (Metz) Bland in Sioux City. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School for two years before moving to Denison, Iowa where he graduated. Richard then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1966.

On May 29, 1965 Richard married Mary Amunson in Soldier, Iowa.

He then was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and served in the Viet Nam war. He was honorably discharged in November 1, 1968. He worked at Terra Chemical for 38 years as an accountant.

Richard enjoyed playing golf every weekend and holidays. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Sioux City, 2 sons, Craig Bland of Oakland, CA; Eric Bland and wife Dawn of Jefferson, SD. His mother Marian Bland of Huron, OH. 3 granddaughters, Kendra, Andrea and Hayley Bland. 2 brothers, Mark Bland and wife Cindy of New Albany, IN; and Tom Bland of Merriman, NE. 2 sisters, Mary Kovalik and husband Steve of Huron, OH: and Catherine Larsen and husband John of Dixon, IL. Mother-in-law, Esther Amunson of Mapleton, IA, 3 sisters-in-law, Julie Britton and her husband Bill of Slater, IA: Doris McBurney and her husband Jim of Manson, IA: and Karen Amunson of Rochester, MN.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Charles.
