SIOUX CITY -- Nita L. Blackwell of Sioux City went home to her Lord and Savior Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at her residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Schoenherr of Central Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Nita was born Jan. 13, in Lac Du Flambeau, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Josephine (Cobe) Cross. She lived in Portland, Ore., and Chicago before coming to Sioux City in 1949.
She married Edward Blackwell on June 2, 1949, in Sioux City. He died Sept. 14, 1981, in Sioux City. She had worked for Younkers Department Store.
Nita loved the Lord and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Steven E. Blackwell of Texas; a daughter, Jeanne Semple of the Siouxland area; four grandchildren, Steve, Mandy, Christine and Cody; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cade, Henry and Patrick Edward; and four sisters, Florence, Maxine, Suzanne and Sharon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; and two brothers and a sister, Eugene, Ben and Lois.
Pallbearers will be Steve Blackwell Sr., Steve Blackwell Jr., George Semple, Hugh O'Hara, Don Semple and Cody Blackwell.
