A.M. "Mike" Biderman

June 5, 1921 — November 25, 2008

A.M. "Mike" Biderman, 87, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at his residence comforted by his family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside honors offered by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be noon until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Mike was born June 5, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Charles and Emma (Ehrenberger) Biderman. He was raised on a farm outside Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids Public Schools before he began a career in the U.S. Navy. Mike enlisted in August 1941, serving his country in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a U.S. Navy pilot and retired at the rank of commander in 1963.

Mike married Theressa "Teddie" Johnson on June 30, 1948, in Long Beach, Calif. Mike spent the last 37 years in Sioux City managing the airport restaurant in the mid-1970s and managing both Dollar and Budget Car Rentals throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Mike and his wife, Teddie, loved to travel, having spent considerable time in Hawaii and Tampa, Fla., throughout the many years. He enjoyed gardening and horse races, especially the Kentucky Derby, in which he and Teddie would host Derby parties to share their enthusiasm. He loved all animals, especially dogs. The two Chihuahuas Mike and Teddie had in the mid-1960s to the early 1980s were Queenie and Ginger. Mike also loved very much his furry great grand dogs, a female yellow Lab, Molly and four male Collies, Joey, Jack, Johnny and J.J. (Jesse Jar).

Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Mulder of Sioux City; and granddaughter, Valerie Greger and her husband, David of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Teddie; a sister, Olga Rose Vavra; and brothers, Lumir, Leonard and William.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
