Dorothy E. Betsworth

February 9, 1923 — November 19, 2008

SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy E. (Morgan) Betsworth, our precious mother, 85, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, with her daughter by her side.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Crescent Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to a luncheon and time of fellowship with the family beginning noon Saturday at Crescent Park Church, 2826 Myrtle Street. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Our mother was born to Carl C. and Bernice F. (Powell) Morgan on Feb. 9, 1923, in Wakonda, S.D. She attended and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1941.

She married her special "Bud", Ralph F. Betsworth on Dec. 26, 1942, in Dakota City. They celebrated 64 wonderful years with family and friends. Ralph passed away suddenly on Feb. 25, 2007. They traveled while Ralph was in the Army.

Dorothy worked at banks, J.C. Penney's and last as a teacher's aide for the teachers at West High School in Sioux City. Dorothy had been a resident of Holy Spirit since July 2001.

She was a former member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and a present member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church. Dorothy had a Scout troop and a swing band called "Nights of Rhyme." She enjoyed her family and grandchildren and all of her close friends. She loved to go to softball games, write poetry, draw scenery of growing up photos through her eyes, fish, play her organ, bowling, tending to her yard flowers and watch "As the World Turns: and the "Lawrence Welk Show." Last but not least, Dorothy enjoyed pie with ice cream on top.

Dorothy was gifted by having three special kids become hers to love, guide through school, college, jobs and families and share the love of church, family and music. A son, Randy D. Betsworth and his wife, Ruth of Waterloo, Iowa, Carla Raellyn Betsworth of Sioux City and Anthony Betsworth and his wife, Lori of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Ryan D. Betsworth, Rene M. Tietz and her husband, Jeremy and Kayla M. Betsworth; three great-grandchildren, Reawna M. Betsworth, Kalli Tietz and Reegan Tietz; and two nephews of her sister, Ollie, Barry and Jeff Dillion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 2007; a sister, Ollie Waltke in 1998; her parents in 1980 and 1947; and a sister, Helen Morgan in 1937.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.

Thanks to all the families at Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Hospice Team Members.
