Louise M. Bertrand, 89, of Jefferson passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Louise was born June 8, 1917, in Vermillion, S.D., to Lewis and Flossie (Fowler) Benscoter. She attended school in Jefferson.

She married Lee Bertrand on March 2, 1935, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Lee passed away on April 1, 1983. Louise was a homemaker and worked on the farm with her husband. After retirement from the farm in 1982, Louise and Lee moved into town.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where she was a past member of St. Peter's Altar Society. Louise was very active in her church and was a devoted Catholic. She was an excellent seamstress and a good card player. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Nordquist of Laramie, Wyo.; two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Louis Bauernfeind of Sergeant Bluff and Phyllis and Charles Summers of Buffalo, Mo.; three grandchildren, Deetta Rapp of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gregory Lee (Trish) Kvidahl of Aurora, Colo. and Teresa (Carl) Majewski of Laramie, Wyo.; six great-grandchildren, Amber and Sara Kvidahl, Ashley Kallal, Stan Rapp, Heidi and Levi Majewski; a great-great-grandson, William Kallal; and special friends, the Don Frankl family and the Bob Geary family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Dorotha; a brother, Louis; and a son-in-law, Richard.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Church or Community Center.
