Eleanore Mae Red (Thompson) Bertrand, 82, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at a local nursing home. Closed casket visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Ronnie Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Eleanore was born on June 22, 1927 in Sioux City, IA. Eleanore was married to Francis Bertrand in February of 1945 in Vermillion, SD. Eleanore worked for the Sioux City Community School at Grant School for 27 years retiring in 1997.
Eleanore is survived by 3 sons: Robert (Luann), David (Kathy), and Michael (fianc Vicki Norton) all of Sioux City; Foster daughter Ida Gastro; one sister Charlotte Trout of Elkhardt, IN; Sister-in-laws: Margaret Thompson of Jefferson S.D., Lucille Curio of N. Sioux City, S.D. Bonnie Bunny Schmitz of Elk Point, S.D., Amelia Bertrand of Jefferson, S.D. and Lorraine Bertrand of Sioux City; 11 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanore was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1979, 2 sons: Terry and Timmy Joe; Parents Robert and Edna Thompson, 2 Brothers: Roland and Walter Thompson; 2 Sisters: Eileen (George) Golden and Lenore (Donald) Limoges.
Spiritual bouquets by her Granddaughters: Pam Bertrand, Jennifer (Chad) Harsma and Amy (Damon) Peirce.
Pallbearers: Grandsons: Dan, Tom, Rick, Russ, Brian, Joel, Scott Bertrand and Chris Schafer.
Honorary Pallbearers: Kim Downs, Judy Thompson, Patty Carrell, Diane Springfield, Carol Brown, Charlotte Vander Schaeff, Colleen Allen, Dennis and Donna Golden, Gary and Judy Golden and Rhonda Eberhardt to whom Eleanore is forever grateful for all their loving care.
