SIOUX CITY -- Charles A. "Chuck" Bertrand, 74, of Sioux City died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, in Sioux City after a long illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of The Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with military honors. Visitation will be the one hour prior the service at the church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling arrangements.

Chuck was born May 19, 1936, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Bernadette (Dufault) Bertrand. He attended St. Joseph School in Salix. He served with the U.S. Army for two years. For several years he worked on highway construction and then at the sawmill in Sgt. Bluff. Chuck later became self-employed as a tree surgeon.

He is survived by a brother, Merrill Bertrand of Sioux City; four sisters, Rose Pearson of Bronson, Iowa, Teresa (Bob) Christiansen and MariaLayna (Paul) Cuce, all of Santa Maria, Calif., and Amilia (James) O'Mara of Lake City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Arline Deduke, Ruth Larson, Beverly Knight and Pearle Martinez; and five brothers, Donald, Henry, Terrence, Francis and Richard Bertrand.
