Veronica D. "Ronnie" Berens, 44, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Veronica "Ronnie" was born June 21, 1964, in Walterboro, S.C., to Richard and Charlotte (Hicks) Turner. She attended East Middle and East High Schools. She had lived in Sioux City for most of her life.

She married Jim R. Berens on July of 2008. She worked for Gateway from 1998 until 2002 and had worked at Northern Hills Retirement Community since 2002. Ronnie enjoyed spending time with her son, Jake. She enjoyed music, gardening and helping other people. She had a love of dogs.

Survivors include her husband, Jim of Sioux City; a son, Jake Murray of Sioux City; her mother, Charlotte Calhoun of Papillion, Neb.; her father, Richard W. Turner of Sevierville, Tenn.; two sisters, Susan Stolpe of Papillion, and Kimberly Calhoun of Fredericksburg, Va.; three brothers, Tony Turner of Papillion, Kelly Calhoun and his wife, Leigh of Seattle, Wash., and Jeremy Calhoun and his wife, Jennifer of Greenville, S.C.; her maternal grandmother, Helen Hicks of Hampton, S.C.; aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Thurman Hicks and paternal grandparents, Hudson and Sarah Turner.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Pat, Tim and Tom Berens, Dan Curry and Pat Lyon.
