Elizabeth M. "Betty" Berens, 73, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Hartington, Neb., the daughter of Sylvester and Amollia (Noecker) Dendinger. She graduated from Holy Trinity in Hartington in 1954. She had lived in Hartington until 1954, when she moved to Sioux City.
She married Gerald Berens on May 14, 1955, in Hartington. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1988. She was a homemaker and employed as a certified home health aid with Mercy Home Care, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she sang in the adult choir.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Donald Berens of Sioux City; an aunt, Dorothy Noecker of Hartington; a special friend and neighbor, Jo Ann Mack for taking her to the doctor and spending time with her these last few days; and several friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Berens and Marjorie Schesser; and two brothers-in-law, Earl Berens and Wayne Berens.
