SIOUX CITY -- Robert Edward Bennett, 76, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at a local hospital following a short illness.
A private memorial service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Robert was born Sept. 23, 1932, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of William James and Mae (Rowley) Bennett. He was raised in Sioux City, attending the public schools and graduated from Morningside College.
Robert married Constance Byrne on June 18, 1954, at Mayflower Congregational Church in Sioux City. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. Robert worked as a livestock cattle salesman for Stockman's Great Northwest Commission Company for more than 50 years.
He was the past president of Siouxland Youth Hockey and past vice president of the Iowa High School Hockey Association. Robert was a very active member of Mayflower Congregational Church, serving as a past president, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and member of the choir. He loved to work in the yard, enjoyed attending all of his children's and grandchildren's activities and spending time with his beloved miniature schnauzer, Zoe.
Survivors include his wife, Constance Bennett; a son, Mike and wife, Shelly Bennett of Sioux City; a daughter, Robbi and husband, Doug Boddy of Sioux City; grandchildren, Tanner Boddy, Kyle Bennett, Jessica Bennett and Claire Bennett; and a sister, Nancy Zweber of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Kathryn Bennett; two sisters; and a brother.
Memorials may be given in Robert's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
