NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- Lucille M. Bennett, 93, of Newcastle passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca, Neb.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7 p.m., at the church parish hall.
Lucille was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Newcastle, the daughter of James F. and Katherine (Sherlock) Breslin. She attended Wayne State College.
She married John D. Bennett on April 10, 1934, in Newcastle. He died Jan. 27, 1972, in Sioux City. She taught country school in Dixon County, Neb., for three years. She was a buyer for Younkers Department Store in Sioux City for 13 years. She then worked at Fantles Clothing Store in Sioux Falls, S.D. for six years and in the kitchen at Newcastle Public School for 10 years.
She was a member of the American Business Women's Association. She also was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Sodality, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary and TOPS Club. She was an avid fan of the Newcastle Raiders. She enjoyed traveling both domestically and abroad. Her greatest interest of all was her grandchildren's activities of which she was their biggest fan.
Survivors include seven grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Dan Hannaway, Max Jr. (deceased) and Katherine Gould, Brian and Jessica Gould, Mary and Ken Cordova and Lisa Spoto, all of Colorado, Greg and Jill Gould of Boston, Mass., and Rick and Patty Hansen of Hinton, Iowa; 19 great-grandchildren, Patrick and Kelly Hannaway, Gaby, Brooke and Max III Gould, Keri and Kayla Hansen, Brock and Giselle Gould, Chad, JJ, Matt and Ashley Cordova, Nicki, Emilee, Marie and Michael Spoto, Greg Jr. and Sally Gould; and a sister-in-law, Selma Breslin of Newcastle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Salle and Max Gould Sr., and Penni and Earl Prestage; and a grandson, Max Gould Jr.
She will be carried to her place of rest by her great-grandchildren.
