Bernice June Bennett, 89, of Sioux City died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Stanley Cook officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Bernice was born June 24, 1918, in Sioux City, to Walter and Ethel (Meyers) Bennett. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She worked for many years at J.C. Penney's Department Store.
Bernice played the mandolin for many years and enjoyed the jam sessions with other members of her family. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She had been a caregiver to her parents for many years.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Karen Wingert and her husband, Mike, Bob Bennett, Nancy Mason, Diane Sloan and her husband, Dewey, Marilyn Shelton and her husband, Steve, Julie Gates and her husband, Ken, Joyce Jensen and her husband, Gary, and Steve Heinemann; several grandnieces and grandnephews, including Michael Wingert Jr., Lisa Aguilar and her husband, Johnny, and Stanley Cook and his wife, Donna, who all helped care for Bernice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joyce as an infant and Helen; three brothers, Max, Homer and Stanley; and a nephew, Kurt.
