Janice Rae Benjamin, 71, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, under Hospice care at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's-Gary Owens Cemetery, Burbank, S.D. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Janice was born May 5, 1935, in Sioux City, the daughter of Claude and Grace (Hamel) Finley. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.

She met future husband, James R. Benjamin, when he returned on leave from California. They were married in Winterhaven, Calif., on Sept. 12, 1959. They later purchased a home in Castro Valley, Calf., living there until 1997, when they moved to Huntley, Neb. In 2001, after she became ill, they moved to Sioux City to be closer to family. She was a homemaker. Jim passed away in 2004.

The couple enjoyed camping and traveling all over the country in their motor home.

She is survived by two sisters, Jean Jones of McCook Lake, S.D., and Joan and her husband, Bill Cory of Sloan, Iowa; two brothers, Jim and his wife, Evelyn of Blencoe, Iowa, and Bob and Dena of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Claude; two nephews, Dennis Jones in infancy and Dexter Tucker Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Robert L. Jones.
