Delores N. Bell, 77, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Mick Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Delores was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Sioux City, the daughter of James and Gladys M. (Stull) Bales Sr. She graduated from Central High School in 1946.
She married Beckett Bell Sr. on Feb. 28, 1953, in Staples, Minn. He preceded her in death in June 16, 1993, in Sioux City. She lived in Wadena, Minn., Victoria, Texas, and Goldsboro, N.C., before moving back to Sioux City in 1968. She was a ceramics instructor for the city of Goldsboro from 1965 to 1968. She was a technician for the school board in Sioux City from 1969 to 1981.
She was a Boy Scout leader and a team leader for cheerleading in Goldsboro, N.C. She also was active in the Eagles and at the Youth Center at the Air Force Base in North Carolina. She was a past member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and currently attending River's Edge. She loved gardening and flowers and taking care of her yard. She also loved her pets. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her sons, Warren "Rusty" Bell and Beckett Bell Jr., both of Sioux City; daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Mike Burtle of Woodenville, Wash., and Joann and Kirby Hueschen of Dakota City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Donald and Rosie Bales of Sioux City; and a sister, Lorena Attrill of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Kellogg; her father, James Bales Sr.; her husband, Beckett Bell Sr.; her stepfather, Ed Kellogg; a brother, James Bales Jr.; a brother-in-law, Leonard Attrill; and a sister, Bernice Iverson.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hueschen, Marty Hueschen, Dave Balsley Jr., Chuck Rose, John Strauss and Mike Belew.
