Walter Paul Behn, 94, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Following the service Friday, the body will be cremated. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Walt was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Magnet, Neb., the son of William and Augusta (Eggart) Behn. He served in the U.S. Army Calvary during World War II.
He married Fernie Hill on July 26, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a plant manager at Sherman Foods for many years. Mike Sherman and his son, Stan, were lifelong friends. He owned and operated Strike and Spare bowling supply shop from 1958 to 1969.
He was an avid bowler for many years and was inducted into the Iowa Bowlers Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Fernie of South Sioux City; a daughter, Sandee Hill and her companion, Cheryl McKee of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Berniece Behn of Los Osos, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph and Ray; and a sister, Gertie.
Pallbearers will be Stan Sherman, Harold Chartier, Brad Moore, Ron Hoffman, Kelly Graves and Tom Mitchell.
