Clifford A. "Cliff" Beaumier, 44, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his residence from A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was diagnosed on Sept. 9, 2004.
Services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the visitation. Cliff was born Oct. 10, 1963, in Fairbanks, Alaska, the son of Christina (Gundics) and Thomas J. Beaumier Jr. He graduated from West High School in 1982, then attended Morningside College.
He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and graduated first in his unit. He completed the airborne course at Fort Benning, Ga. While in the Marines, he ran in the 1989 L.A. Marathon. This was his first ever marathon, so he was required to start at the back of the pack of 18,908 runners and he placed 1,782. He later participated in half marathons.
He married Kelly L. Pettaway on June 4, 1986 in Sioux City. He owned and operated Hawkeye Pest Control in Yucca Valley, Calif., for 11 years.
He was a former member of Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel in Yucca Valley. He was baptized into the Christian faith in August 1999. He was a devoted Miami Dolphins fan. His hobbies included playing golf and custom club making. He also enjoyed trips to the Sierra Mountains with his California friends.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Beaumier; two daughters, Ashley Lynnee and Payton Kiara, both at home; his mother, Christina Beaumier of Sioux City; five siblings, Lil (Gary) Hoesing of Sioux City, Richard (Lea) Beaumier of Anchorage, Alaska, John Michael (Sheila) Beaumier of Washta, Iowa, Paul (Kris) Beaumier of Sioux City and Mark Beaumier of Sioux City; honorary family members, Clifford and Patricia Goodrich (also his godparents) of Sioux City; special friends, Mark Bales of Sioux City and James Taylor of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Jerry and Thomas III; his grandparents, Lillian and Thomas Beaumier and Johann and Anna Gundics; and a niece, Mariah Beaumier.
Pallbearers will be Mark Bales, James Taylor, Gary Hoesing, Mike Beaumier, Kollin Woodbury, Korey Woodbury, Kevin Pettaway and Mark Beaumier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesus Garbiso, Richard Beaumier, Paul Beaumier, Rob Keegan, Nick Hoesing, Andy Merrigan and Matthew Beaumier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his wife, Kelly, (3015 Pierce St., Sioux City, IA. 51104) the family for his daughters' education or to M.D.A./A.L.S. of Sioux Falls, S.D.
