Vernon L. Beaulieu, 87, of Sioux City passed away on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in the Hospice Wing at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 6 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Vernon was born June 30, 1919, in Merrill, Iowa, to Frank and Kathryn (Trauner) Beaulieu. He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 15, 1941, to Oct. 31, 1945. He was honorably discharged as a corporal after serving our country in Normandy, North France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He married Ethel Trudeau on Feb. 7, 1946, in Sioux City. She died Feb. 2, 1984, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in Hinton, Iowa, from 1946 to 1956, when they moved to Sioux City. Vernon worked at the Sioux City Stockyards for Producers Commission Firm and retired after 27 years.
He was a member of the Church of the Nativity.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Italia and her husband, Joe of Omaha; two grandchildren, Dan Weidert of Dallas, Texas, and Krista Wilhelm of Omaha; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Frisch of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel; three brothers, Harold, Sylvester and Albert; four sisters, Esther Gorman, Cecelia Vondrak, Mamie DeRocher and Iona Schindel.
Pallbearers will be James, Richard, Kenneth and William Beaulieu, Larry Vondrak and Tom Frisch.
