SIOUX CITY -- Elsie M. Beaulieu, 92, of Sioux City, formerly of Hinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at her residence at Bickford Cottages in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Ellendale. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Elise was born July 12, 1918, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Edward and Marie (Freymann) Vondrak. She attended grade school in a one-room rural school and high school at Central High School (the old "Castle on the Hill") in Sioux City. She graduated with honors and received a Normal Training Teacher's Certificate for teaching in rural schools.
She taught several years before her marriage to Thomas H. Beaulieu on June 1, 1938, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City. Her married life was spent on their farmstead in Plymouth County, until she moved to Bickford Cottages in 2007.
She was a hard-working farm wife, who enjoyed baking, sewing, quilt making, gardening and numerous church activities. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ellendale, Merrill, Iowa.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Dean and Dr. Candace Beaulieu of New Brighton, Minn., and Tom E. and Dawn Beaulieu of Hinton; a daughter, Nancy and Jerry Nightingale of Elkhorn, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Thomas, in 2005 and her daughter, Dianne Hartman, in 1990.
