DAKOTA DUNES -- Shirley Ann Bauer, 73, of Dakota Dunes died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Private graveside services will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Jefferson, S.D. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Shirley was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Oscar and Anna (Eckerman) Allard. She attended Sacred heart Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1955.

She married Jim Bauer on Jan. 28, 1956, in Sioux City. She worked for Zenith Corp. for a few years. When Zenith closed, she returned to school and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing. She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. She then was an occupational nurse for Curly's Meats and retired in 2001.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and playing cards. She especially enjoyed family outings and preparing family dinners on holidays.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Bauer of Dakota Dunes; four sons and their wives, Timothy and Judy Bauer of Sioux City, Dennis and Chris Bauer of Grand Island, Neb., Mark and Jan Bauer of Marcus, Iowa, and Matt and Karen Bauer of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Mike Bauer and his wife, Beth, Jason Bauer and his wife, Tyra, Michell Bauer and her friend, Damien Deal, Cory, David, Katie, Sharah, Tom, Nicholas, Taylor and Megan Bauer; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Blake and Kaden Bauer; four brothers-in-law and their wives, Richard and Judy Bauer of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Larry and Rose Bauer of Pinnole, Calif., David and Cathi Bauer of Charleston, W.Va., and Dan and Kathie Bauer of Quartz Hill, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Vonnie Jones of Buffalo, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard Allard; a sister and her husband, Leona (Allard) and William McKnight; a sister-in-law, Barbara Bauer; and her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Neva Bauer.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike, Jason, Cory, David, Tom, Nicholas and Taylor Bauer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
