Nellie E. Bathurst

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. -- Nellie E. Bathurst, 90, of Dakota Dunes passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at a lcoal hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Sylvia Kennedy officiating.

Nellie was born March 25, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of Harry and Etta (Cowels) Murphy.

She married Roland Bathurst in 1939, in Jefferson, S.D. He preceded her in death in 1959 in Sioux City. Nellie worked as the records coordinator for Midwest Energy, previously known as IPS, for many years until she retired in 1988.

Nellie was an avid reader and enjoyed many magazines and books. On March 25, 2011, she celebrated her 90th birthday and had many wonderful friends and family at her side to help her celebrate her special day.

She is survived by her son, James and his wife, Joan Bathurst of Port Isabel, Texas; a daughter, Connie Butler of Smithville, Mo.; two grandsons; a special granddaughter, Stephanie and her husband, Dan Budzban; a son-in-law, John Langer of Denison, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews including Dick and Louise Bathurst, Gary and Lela Bathurst, Jeannie Craig, and Dennis and Joann Lynch, who have given their time and special care to Nellie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Joan Langer; two grandsons; and her brothers and sisters.

Nellie's family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the caring and compassionate staff at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Siouxland.
