SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- David C. Barringer, 66, of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Matney Colonial Manor.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nelson Berger Northside Chapel, with Pastor Tom Squier officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at Ruthven, Iowa. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home.
David was born Jan. 2, 1944, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Harold Kenneth and E. Virginia (Curtis) Barringer. He graduated high school from Ruthven, Iowa, and graduated college from Wayne State in Wayne, Neb. David taught high school social studies for two years in Whiting, Iowa. He served for two tours in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy.
When he returned, he worked at the Bergen Mercy Hospital as a business office manager in Omaha, Neb., until medically retiring. During his retirement, David was an avid gardener; he also enjoyed biking and walking. He helped to develop the Parkinson's support group in Sioux City.
Survivors include his brother, Ken Barringer of Sioux City; his sister, Marilyn Yoakum of Willmar, Minn; and four nieces and nephews, Tashia Hamilton, Tyke "Dale" Yoakum, Heather Reedy and Curt Yoakum.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
