Marcelino Barreras

Marcelino Barreras, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be prayer at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (Formerly Nelson ~ Berger Morningside Chapel). A funeral service will then be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006 also at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marcelino was born May 4, 1924 in Cimarron, New Mexico to Antonio and Charlotte (Medina) Barreras. He grew up and attended school in Las Animas, Colorado. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 28, 1944 at Fort Logan, Colorado. He served in the southern Philippines where he was wounded and received a purple heart and 2 bronze stars. Marcelino was honorably discharged on November 2, 1945 in Hospital Center at Camp Carson, Colorado. He married Angelina Trujillo on 1950 at Raton, New Mexico. Marcelino worked for the V.A. until 1957 when they moved to Sioux City. He then began working at Sioux City Brick and Tile until he retired on May 4, 1987. Marcelino attended Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include his wife: Agelina Barreras, 5 children: Marcelino Barreras and wife Virginia Pecos, New Mexico: Adelina (Lena) Schliep and husband Steve of Council Bluffs, Iowa: Charlotte Arthur and husband Stephen of Las Vegas, Neveda: Pamela Desy and husband Marv of Sioux City, Iowa; and Tony Barreras and wife Jennifer of Sioux City, Iowa. 10 grandchildren, 3 Step grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers Raymond Barreras and wife Bessie of Colorado, Joe Barreras and wife Viola of Colorado, Tony Barreras of Colorado, Sammy Barreras and wife Connie of California, 1 sister Rosie Drun of California, 1 brother-in-law Vincent Roybel of Colorado.

Marcelino was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brothers Jimmy Barreras and 1 sister Lucy Roybel.
