Adelina M. Barreras, 82, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating, at the funeral home.
Adelina was born June 20, 1926, in Cimmarone, N.M., to Apolonio and Adelina (Ledou) Trujillo. She received her education in New Mexico before entering the work force at an early age as a waitress.
She married Marcelino Barreras in 1950 in Raton, N.M. They relocated to Sioux City in 1950. She worked for 17 years cleaning offices in the Benson Building, was a child care provider at numerous churches in the area for 14 years and worked at the Sioux City Bakery for a number of years.
She loved to cook and bake, making sure that no one went hungry. She was a past member of the Eagles and Senior Center, where she enjoyed dancing at both. God granted her the "gift-to-gab" and she loved to talk, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren, with whom she loved spending time.
She is survived by her children, Lee Barreras (Virginia) of New Mexico, Lena Schliep (Steve) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Charlotte Arthur (Stephen) of Las Vegas, Nev., Pam Desy (Marv) of Sioux City and Tony Barreras (Jennifer) of Sioux City; brothers, Jose A. Trujillo, Apolonio Trujillo and Leroy Trujillo; sisters, Delia Martinez, Clara Faria and Martina Estrada; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers; and a sister.
