SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Lois E. Barr, 76, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Lois was born May 28, 1933, in Sioux City, the daughter of Milton and Grace (Rosenberger) Christiansen. She grew up in North Sioux City and graduated from Jefferson (S.D.) High School.

She married Claire D. Barr on March 26, 1951, in Luverne, Minn. He died April 27, 1993, in Sioux City. She worked as a legal assistant for John Pirog, for National Foods for 17 years, then in the dental industry for her son, Dr. Douglas Barr before retiring in 2005.

She was a member of Church of the Nativity. Family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and the rest of her family.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Douglas Barr and his wife, Mary of South Sioux City and their two children, Lauren and Jordan; two sisters, Carolyn and her husband, Marvin Trudeau and Bev and her husband, Richard Rosenkrans, all of Sioux City; a brother, Ernie Christiansen and his wife, Dorothy of Sloan, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Christiansen and her husband, Dr. Edward Wiltgen of Dakota Dunes; many nieces and nephews; and the staff and many friends that she made at Regency Square Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bonnie Beaubien; and a brother, Russ Christiansen.

Pallbearers will be Lt. Col. Danny Barr (Ret.), Susie Faltys, Jon Christiansen, Lynn Lanning, Dr. Kurt Rosenkrans and Tanya Krueger.

A memorial has been established in her name in care of Security National Bank.
