John Cruz Balcorta

SIOUX CITY -- John Cruz Balcorta Sr., 66, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Visitation with the family will be 5 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

John was born March 11, 1944, to Lois Prink and Vincent Balcorta. He was born and raised in Niles, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. He moved to Sioux City in 1982, where he resided on Ingleside Avenue for the next 26 years.

He is survived by his beloved family: his brother, Don "Snooky" Verastegui of Patterson, Calif.; his godson, Dwayne Rodriguez of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Tanya Rodriguez of Sioux City; his special lifelong companion of 35 years, Cathy Rodriguez of Sioux City; two sons, John (Angie) Balcorta Jr. of Patterson, Calif., and Shawn Balcorta of Pleasanton, Calif.; two daughters, Luana Balcorta of Modesto, Calif., and Trina Balcorta of Hayward, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
